Jackie in Japan - The Last Train

Normally, I will not make two posts like this in one day, but this just happened yesterday and neither this, nor the post before can wait.

I was out last night doing karaoke again because one of those I call a friend had her birthday yesterday and invited me. We were a bit further away than last time. We had a lot of fun and got to sing a lot. But we had started late, so we finished only a little before midnight and it was probably past midnight before we got out of there. Then we went to the station nearby to get the subway home. However...

we couldn't.

In Japan, the trains don't run at certain hours of the night and therefore, the stations can close. We had just missed the last train and were turned away by the ticket gates. We then wanted to take the bus, but they didn't go either. There was only one option left.

Walking home.

That was what we did. It took maybe one and half an hour. We were back at the dorms at nearly 2am and we were cold and tired, but at least we made it, and it was mostly straight ahead.

It was a fun night, all things considered, and I would gladly do it all over again, not that I'll get the chance. I mean, by this time in two weeks, I'll be in Haneda Airport, waiting to get the first flight on my way home.

I know the animation industry has been going through a serious rough patch in the past 10 years. I just hope the medium and the artists making it can get the respect they deserve someday soon. So I wanna take a moment to spread a reminder of the powerful emotional scenes we've gotten from animation in the past 10 years.

Netflix, I don’t know how to tell you this but a woman doesn’t have to be self taught to be a strong female character. It’s ok to let her know her limitation and ask for help. It’s ok to let her get angry, it’s ok to let her be jealous, it’s ok to let your female character have flaws and WORK on them. Your female character doesn’t have to become a master on her own to be memorable, it just makes her accomplishment feel unearned.
